* Pre_ registration is required for ALL workshops. Sign up early as space is limited. Absolute Beginners: A slower beginners class for those really wanting to take it one step at a time. Please inform your teacher of any injuries - past or present. Animal Yoga: A playful and fun class where the students growl, roar and swim there way to good health and positive body awareness. Ages 3-5 but sometimes we stretch the age limits. Anusara Inspired: Anusara means “flowing with grace” and is John Friend’s specialized version of yoga. It is the fastest growing type of yoga in the world. This class focuses on the universal principles of alignment and weaves together a class around a specialized theme for that day. You will leave inspired!!! This is a mixed level class and beginners are welcome. Beginning Foundations: A beginners hatha flow class designed to lay the groundwork for establishing a yoga practice. All levels welcome. Core Conditioning and Balance: Using specified movements focused on the four layers of abdominal muscles we will learn to use the belly muscles to lift out of the lower back, reversing the compression common in this area. We will also take pressure off the joints in the hips, knees, ankles, and shoulders as we strengthen all of the small stabilizing muscles surrounding these joints to allow to counteract the wear and tear common in these areas. Inversions and arm balances are commonly taught in this class but are modified to accommodate beginners. Mixed level class and beginners looking for a challenge are welcome. Gentle Yoga; A slow and gentle approach to yoga where we use the breath to unlock tight areas of the body in a safe and supportive environment. Appropriate for all levels and beginners are welcome, please inform your teacher of any past or present injuries you are working with. Getting Better With Age: A beginners class where we teach the ability to use the abdominal muscles to save the wear and tear on the joints of the body, taking pressure off the lower back and knees while strengthening this “fountain of youth” that resides in the belly. Therapeutic and suitable for all ages and levels we will embody the studio motto that “Like fine wine and good cheese, we are just getting better with age!” Hot Mamas and Babies: This is a fun class held in a safe and supportive environment where babies can be babies and are not expected to be very tiny adults!!! This post-natal class (babies and mom’s 6 weeks post-part um and up please) focuses on toning and tightening the belly and pelvic floor muscles as well as loosening the tight back, shoulders, neck and chest muscles that come with pregnancy and holding that bundle of joy. Class ends with guided meditation and infant massage for deep relaxation. Please bring milk (breast or bottle welcome) and/or snacks plus a baby blanket and extra diapers just in case! Followed by optional Mommy Lunch Date. Hot Mamas Pre-Natal: A class especially for the expecting mom designed to strengthen all of the muscles needed for the journey of pregnancy and childbirth. We weave together standing postures, stretching and breathing techniques to create a fun and dynamic flow just you that ends in a deeply relaxing guided meditation. This is an active class and is not suitable for all women, please call with questions. Itty Bitty Buddhas: A toddlers first introduction to yoga, this class uses songs and stories to guide little ones through basic yoga poses making moving the body a fun experience for all. Ages 2-3. Kids Yoga: A fun filled yoga experience where children ages 6-10 are encouraged to find inner strength and inner peace in a stress free, non-competitive environment. We will access and encourage the child’s imagination as we use our natural environment for inspiration in poses like “down dog”, “cow”, “cat” and “tree”. This class is excellent for children with anxiety. Mind/Body Bootcamp: Our longest running class and this 2.5 hour complete body overhaul has recently been divided into 2 segments. During Freestyle flow (8:30-10am) we will work with student requests and incorporate them into a flowing sequence designed to detoxify and stretch deeply the body. During the Core Conditioning segment (10 am -11am) we will focus specifically on the abdominal muscles (or as Sanctuary director, Michelle Fleming refers to them as “the fountain of youth”) to teach the body the joint saving techniques of “moving from the core”. Mixed level class and beginners in good health are welcome. Punk Rock Yoga: A rockin’ good time focusing on sweating away all of the stress that comes with being young in a small town. This class is mixed level and focuses on finding the inner strength inherent but often forgotten in today’s teen population. Aging punk rockers welcome too!!! Totally appropriate for beginners and taught by Michelle and Kate who have first hand experiences with the intense anxiety and depression experienced by so many of us. Student discounts available. Release and Relax: This is a Yin Yoga class. Yin yoga is a specialized form of yoga where the participant relaxes deeply while propped up on blankets and blocks to allow the muscles to fully release so that the deeper connective tissue of the body begins to stretch gently. It is a highly therapeutic form of yoga and will bring blood flow to very tight areas and scar tissue allowing for deep healing. This is a passive meditative class, beginners are welcome and serious practitioners are highly encouraged to use this as an opposing practice to their flow for increased flexibility and fluidity. Yoga for Young Women: This class focuses on moving the body in a fun and stress free environment free of competition and filled with positive encouragement. We do lots of partner work, encourage co-operation between girls, and work on positive body image. Sometimes, we even rock out to Hannah Montana. Ages 9-11 but we are flexible with this guideline. Excellent class for dealing with the stresses and anxiety of being a “tween”. Yin/Yang: This class begins with the therapeutic yin practice to allow tight areas of the body to release and connective tissue to be nourished from within. The yin is followed then by the more active yang flow where the muscles work deeply to incorporate the new openness of the body into a flowing sequence where you will be amazed at how much smoother and deeper your practice becomes.
